Marjorie Procter-Smith, the LeVan Professor of Preaching and Worship in the Perkins School of Theology, earned her Bachelor of Music from the University of North Texas, her Master of Divinity at Texas Christian University and her Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame. Since joining SMU in 1983, Professor Proctor-Smith has provided leadership by serving as associate dean for Academic Affairs at Perkins School of Theology, leading several editorial boards, and contributing to ecumenical church forums on worship. Her first major book, In Her Own Rite: Constructing Feminist Liturgical Tradition, was published in 1990 and reprinted in multiple editions. It has served as the primary work on the feminist approach to scholarship on worship. Her other books and articles has established Professor Procter-Smith's voice as one of the first to articulate feminism in Christian liturgical studies. She retires as Professor Emerita of Worship.
